Earthquake Aftermath

The past few days have been tense to say the least. We have dealt with more than 100 aftershocks, many of which would normally be considered large quakes on their own. This morning was the most frightening since the original 7.1. It hit around 7:45am as we were getting ready for work and only measured around 5.1 but was much closer to the heart of Christchurch and much shallower so it felt quite strong. This caused many of the already inspected buildings to need re-inspection to make sure they were safe. For some buildings, it was the final straw.

Trey is still out of work until tomorrow but Jocelyn has worked every day since. The street she works on, Victoria Street, was one of the hardest hit streets. Many buildings have been compromised and will need to be demolished. This was the case for the shops directly across the street from Jocelyn's work.

This is just an example of the "clean up" that will be happening around Christchurch to deal with the aftermath of this earthquake.
